Flags to Remain at Half-Staff for Fallen Marine and Providence Police Officer

Providence, R.I. - Governor Lincoln D. Chafee announced today that both U.S. and Rhode Island flags will remain at half-staff through Saturday, April 28, 2012.

The Governor previously ordered both U.S. and Rhode Island flags to half-staff in honor of Lance Cpl. Abraham Tarwoe, who died April 12 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Lance Cpl. Tarwoe's memorial service will be held Saturday.

Additionally, upon returning to the country from Afghanistan, Governor Chafee has ordered the Rhode Island flag flown at half-staff in memory of Providence Police Sergeant Maxwell Dorley, who died in the line of duty on Thursday, April 19, while responding to a call for assistance from a fellow officer. Sgt. Dorley's funeral will be held Friday.

Following Sgt. Dorley's burial and Lance Cpl. Tarwoe's memorial service, a notice will be sent out by the Governor's office authorizing both U.S. and Rhode Island flags to return to full-staff.
